Negative Nancy says - “I have been using Google Calendar and I don’t see any issues”
Me - Imagine when you need to work with multiple calendars and you don’t have a way to sync between calendars. There is no way to send a direct link to book for your Google calendar.
Negative Nancy says - “I can use Excel and Google Sheets for time tracking. Why another SaaS?”
Me - Doesn’t work at scale when you work with multiple people - freelancers, field staff, employees. Tracking in Excel or Google sheets is time-consuming.
Deep-dive & Some niches
While there are a lot of tools there like Calendly that help you send your available slots via a link and lets others book a slot, let’s see some other opportunities in this segment.
AI-Driven Calendar: A calendar tool that works on top of AI (Artificial Intelligence) or GPT-3. This tool should automatically book a calendar for you and send back and forth emails all automatically to the required stakeholders. For example, based on the availability setting in your calendar, your tool should pick the required slot and email the other person to see if that works. Based on the reply, either go ahead and book the calendar or look for another slot and email the user. Use AI/GPT-3 to understand the emails from users. See SideKick for inspiration. Make sure you provide as many integrations as possible. Start with Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook and extend to other tools. Provide add-ons for “meeting delegation”. For example, if there is a conflict in a schedule or if a certain message is not understood by the tool, route the request either to the user or to the one who is delegated to handle the meetings.
Headless Calendar Software/APIs: Create a Micro-SaaS tool that provides required integrations for various meeting tools like Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, Webex, etc. The concept is similar to ‘NoCodeAPI’ but specifically meant for Calendar APIs. You would create required APIs for all calendar tools and meeting tools and anyway who want to integrate these in their products can just use your APIs by passing required auth keys, access keys from the users. If you have heard of headless mode or the concept of ‘NoCodeAPI’, you can relate to this model. Using this code, you can try to provide APIs for all tools under one roof.
Meeting/Calendar/Time tracking for Field teams: While there are several tools for IT professionals, project managers, product managers for organizing calendars, there are not many tools for field teams who work outside the actual office. This includes industries like Cleaning, Construction, Attorneys, Agencies, Real Estate, etc. Create a Micro-SaaS tool for any of these niches that can help manage time and track the time of the field workers. For example, if there is a plumber who is assigned to fix something at a house, the plumber can just be able to see his schedules on phone and as soon as he/she starts working - just uses the app to start and stop tracking the time. This helps you to track updates in real time and organize the workforce with better utilization. See time-tracking apps designed for construction workers, landscapers, attorneys for inspiration.
Embed plugins/WordPress plugins to display Google Calendar/any other calendar: Create a Micro-SaaS tool that provides a plugin to display the calendar on any page. This should let others view the available slots and also book directly from the page. The script/plugin should dynamically pull the slots from the connected calendars(Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook Calendar) and display the calendar data. This can be provided as an embeddable javascript that can work on any kind of website or can be built as a WordPress plugin as well. WordPress plugins like this will bring readymade users and would be easy considering the popularity of the platform. Start with a WordPress plugin and extend the app to provide embeddable plugins for all kinds of sites. Create a See SimpleCalendar for inspiration.
Note-taking app for meetings: These days there are so many tools for calendars and meetings. Create a plugin or a tool or an extension that helps to record quick notes for the meetings. The tool should automatically pop up as soon as the call starts and lest you write notes easily. Right after the meeting, this should be saved over the cloud and be accessible to the user. This works basically as a simple note-taking tool that syncs with the calendar, gets activated as soon as the meetings start, and lets you take the notes.
